Staff Profiles
KATE MCCORMICK
Kate graduated from the University of Queensland with Bachelor of Physiotherapy with first class honours. She has since completed further studies in the field of sports physiotherapy; dry-needling acupuncture and she is a qualified Clinical Pilates instructor.
Since graduating Kate has worked in the field of musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy in private practice in Brisbane. She has also been responsible for the post-surgery orthopaedic rehabilitation for several prominent orthopaedic surgeons at the Brisbane Private Hospital.
Kate joined the team at Junction Road Physiotherapy at the beginning of 2008 and has established an excellent Clinical Pilates facility in conjunction with her work as a physiotherapist. Kate has a special interest in women’s health and has extensive clinical experience dealing with pregnancy and issues of incontinence. As an ex-dancer she is also adept at treating dancing and other injuries associated with hypermobile joints.
Kate is originally from tropical Townsville and supports the North Queensland Cowboys.
IAN ASTBURY
Ian is a graduate of the University of Queensland and has degrees in both physiotherapy and human movement studies. Ian has been a physiotherapist for over 17 years and has been the principal physiotherapist at Junction Road since 2000.
Ian has extensive experience in the fields of sports physiotherapy having worked at state and national levels at various tournaments and for several professional and semi-professional sporting teams. His greatest expertise is in the fields of Rugby Union and Cricket. He has a background in orthopaedic rehabilitation having worked in orthopaedic placements in various hospitals both in Australia and the United Kingdom as well as a strong understanding of the scientific side of sport and exercise, having completed his majors in human movement studies in the fields of exercise physiology, biomechanics and conditioning of the elite athlete.
When not involved in the daily running of Junction Road Physiotherapy Ian’s life retains a strong sporting focus by following his three young boys in their own endeavours.
Ian is particularly interested in throwing injuries and associated shoulder problems as well as injuries to adolescent sports people.
Ian is a proud supporter of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.
CAMERON MCDONALD
Cameron graduated from the University of Sydney in 1994 and has worked as a physiotherapist around various parts of Australia and in the United Kingdom. During this time Cameron has been active in continual education to maintain up-to-date skills so that he can provide the highest possible standard of treatment available.
He is a qualified Clinical Pilates instructor and has a strong interest in athletic injuries and the use of core stability to assist with the rehabilitation of running injuries.
Cameron has travelled extensively, with physiotherapy roles in Rugby Union and Athletics taking him to the United Kingdom, China, Hong Kong, South Africa, New Zealand, Namibia and Finland.
Cameron is a black label downhill skier, a keen trekker through third world countries and a supporter of both the St George Dragons and the Waratahs Rugby team.
